Wazco Announces Industry’s First Multi-Sector LTE MetroCell

Wazco assembles industry leaders Interphase, AirHop, and DataSoft to bring groundbreaking Multi-Sector MetroCells to market in 2011

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, May 16, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Today at the LTE World Summit 2011, Wazco LLC in conjunction with Interphase Corporation (NASDAQ:INPH), AirHop Communications, and DataSoft Corporation - acknowledged leaders in advanced, heterogeneous LTE networking components - announced the product of their collaboration, presenting the MetroStorm™ and MetroStorm Cluster™, the industry’s first Multi-Sector small-cell base station family to LTE Network Operators.

“Wazco’s groundbreaking LTE MetroStorm provide everything needed to quickly deliver a first-of-its-kind, high-performance, well-differentiated small-cell base station to the LTE mobile-infrastructure market,” said Mike Nasco, CEO and Co-founder of Wazco. “Bringing these industry leaders together provides a truly innovative, self-contained, self-organizing, self-optimizing, street-level network element.”

“We are pleased to be providing the core of the Wazco MetroStorm via the highly customizable Interphase iSPAN® 36701 baseband module, enabling rapid development via streamlined integration,” added Greg Kalush, President and CEO of Interphase. “Built on the award-winning Mindspeed® Transcede™ baseband processor with field-proven pre-integrated protocol stack software, Interphase platforms are a perfect match for Wazco’s aggressive deployment timeline.”

“Our team’s deep experience in RF innovation, specifically RF isolation management, RF shaping expertise and enclosure design have been leveraged to deliver more coverage, bandwidth, throughput, and user density per base station than other small-cell designs,” commented, Ravindra Noubade, CTO and Co-founder of Wazco. “This has enabled Wazco to quickly develop a highly-innovative, 700 MHz LTE MetroStorm Antenna Array architecture, facilitating the sleek, aesthetically pleasing, self-contained, rapidly-deployable MetroStorm design demanded by both carriers and city managers.”

“Wazco’s multi-sector clustered approach is a perfect illustration of the need for advanced dynamic real-time intra-sector/intra-base station RAN intelligence,” opined Yan Hui, AirHop’s CEO and co-founder. “AirHop’s eSON™ technology allows the active mitigation of the types of real-world operating issues that typically hamper unplanned small cells in field deployments. Wazco’s eSON-powered MetroCells are collaterally deployment-friendly, OpEx-friendly, and designed to minimize operator churn.

“DataSoft enables Wazco to dramatically reduce development costs and time-to-market for the critical RF front-end with hardware derived from our innovative RF transceiver portfolio of tunable RF filters, Software Defined Radio (SDR) and Cognitive Radio (CR) technologies,” adds Vik Patel, DataSoft’s CEO.

SMALL FOOTPRINT - FULLY INTEGRATED SOLUTION

The Wazco Multi-Sector MetroStorm consists of a single self-contained fully-integrated enclosure, hosting up to 4 coordinated sectors, powered via standard interfaces available on street lights, power poles or other similar devices.

RF hardware contributes to half of the total equipment cost and 75% of the volume in traditional base stations, and is the major source of power consumption. This problem is further compounded with the use of MIMO, beam-forming and other antenna techniques which require each path to have its own set of hardware.

The Wazco MetroStorm utilizes an innovative approach – each of its sector’s power amplifiers are an integral part of the active antenna array, allowing up to four of its sector arrays to be self-contained within a single enclosure, removing the need for bulky cabinetry or additional equipment.

Private meetings illustrating the significant advantages of Wazco’s MetroCell can be arranged by contacting Mike Nasco – mikenasco@wazco.com, +1-480-452-8617.
