Interphase, Mindspeed Technologies, Continuous Computing and Ixia to Showcase Live LTE eNodeB Demo at Mobile World Congress 2011

Application-Ready eNodeB Solution Enables Picocell Designs That Can Be Scaled to Femto, Micro and Macrocells

PLANO, Texas – January 25, 2011 -- Interphase Corporation (NASDAQ: INPH), a leading global provider of solutions for converged communications networks, announces a live Long Term Evolution (LTE) eNodeB demonstration at the upcoming GSMA Mobile World Congress 2011 in Barcelona. This game-changing collaboration with Mindspeed Technologies, Inc., Continuous Computing®, and Ixia offers a breakthrough for eNodeB application developers seeking to quickly move product to market with industry-leading base station performance.

“The eNodeB demo system from Interphase enables LTE equipment suppliers to quickly develop a complete eNodeB solution,” said Marc DeVinney, vice president of Engineering at Interphase. “It provides industry-leading base station performance, and its optimal integration of hardware design, an award-winning baseband processor, field-proven eNodeB lower-level software, and sample LTE and EPC applications come pre-integrated, tested, and ready for application development in the lab or for proof of concept with a customer.”

The Interphase LTE eNodeB module, the single card base station in the demo system, employs Mindspeed®’s Transcede™ system-on-chip (SoC) 3G/4G/LTE baseband processor, which provides superior spectrum efficiency, capacity, and peak data rates with extremely low latency. Mindspeed’s Transcede SoC recently won the 2010 Mobile Excellence Award for Best Mobile Technology Breakthrough. The LTE eNodeB module also includes the award-winning Trillium® LTE software stack from Continuous Computing®, which is currently in multiple LTE field trials globally.

For operators, deployment of compact base stations built on the eNodeB module from Interphase enables them to efficiently meet market demand while providing both CAPEX and OPEX savings over current base station technology, through low power requirements and flexible, compact configuration and space requirements.

The demo system’s evolved packet core (EPC) simulator runs Continuous Computing sample LTE core network emulator (CNE) applications for Mobility Management Entity (MME), Serving Gateway (SGW), and PDN Gateway (PGW) on an Interphase multicore packet processor card.

Both the commercial off the shelf (COTS) hardware and pre-integrated software elements of the solution are designed to speed development of LTE base stations that scale economically from femto and pico to macrocell system designs.

In addition to the Interphase LTE demo system, the live demonstration is supported by Ixia’s powerful IxCatapult user equipment (UE) emulation that generates the multiplay traffic for the demonstration and for lab development work.

“Our collaboration gives customers everything they need to quickly bring high-performance, well-differentiated base station equipment to the LTE mobile-infrastructure market,” said Alan Taylor, marketing director for Mindspeed's communications convergence processing (CCP) business unit. “The solution leverages the Transcede family’s computational horsepower and scalable architecture to meet heavy LTE processing demands.”

Todd Mersch, director of product line management with Continuous Computing adds, “Being able to port our field-proven, carrier-class Trillium LTE software across multiple Transcede-based equipment designs, from small cells to macro base stations, is an extremely powerful value proposition for manufacturers of next-generation LTE access equipment. This solution will rapidly accelerate time-to-market, while significantly reducing system cost.”

Ixia offers the industry's most comprehensive LTE testing solution, measuring all aspects of radio base station functionality, capacity, and performance. Ixia’s wireless testing solutions accelerate the deployment and quality of mobile data services – from the wireless access, through the mobile backhaul, to the evolved packet core. Its real-world mobile subscriber modeling enables eNodeB developers to validate service quality and measure subscriber quality of experience (QoE).

The live LTE eNodeB demonstration will take place in the Mindspeed stand 2H57 in Hall 2 and in the Continuous Computing stand 1F01 in Hall 1 at Mobile World Congress 2011. The exhibit hall is open from February 14-17, 2011. Contact lte@iphase.com to schedule a meeting and demonstration or visit the two stands for expert answers to specific questions.
