Interphase Announces Availability of iSPAN 5639L Low-Profile PCI-Express T1/E1/J1 Communications Controller

Robust controller accelerates deployment of signaling and media solutions for high performance rack-mount server platforms

PLANO, Texas – November 25, 2008 -- Interphase Corporation (NASDAQ: INPH), a leading international supplier of next-generation networking technologies, today announced the availability of the iSPAN™ 5639L Low-Profile PCI-Express T1/E1/J1 Communications Controller.  This new PCI-Express adapter, which offers four T1/E1 ports on four physical connectors, is an ideal solution for carrier class rack-mount server-based signaling applications such as home subscriber servers (HSS), home location registers (HLR), SMS centers, MMS centers, MSC-servers and IN service control points. It is also an optimized solution for media applications such as media servers, service nodes, unified messaging systems and media interface inter-working solutions.

Designed for use in server platforms, the iSPAN 5639L product features four individually software configurable T1/E1/J1 interfaces, PCI-Express connectivity to the host processor, and a powerful on-board Freescale™ MPC8560 PowerQUICC III processor for on-board support of multiple network protocols. The iSPAN 5639L is offered with the robust iWARE® Software Development Suite (SDS), an integrated set of embedded firmware, APIs, host drivers (Linux and Solaris operating systems) and utilities (configuration, diagnostic, etc) that accelerates the development and the integration of applications on top of the iSPAN 5639L.  The iWARE SDS is also pre-integrated and tested with several 3rd party higher layer protocol offerings.

“Rack mount server platforms are emerging as a key entry solution for signaling and media applications, especially in emerging markets”, said Marc Orange, product manager at Interphase Corporation. “The iSPAN 5639L provides a highly intelligent and high performance solution for telecommunications OEMs, with its ability to bridge diverse networks, as a cost-effective and software-rich building block.”

The iWARE SDS provides the iSPAN 5639L with support of SS7 (MTP1 & MTP2) Low Speed Links (64/56/48 kpbs) and High Speed Link, SAAL & Q.2140 over ATM link layer, AAL5, Frame Relay, HDLC and ATM protocols, representing a high-performance implementation on the board coupled with easy to use API’s on the host processor for integration with higher layer protocols. The high-impedance interfaces and monitoring mode of operation make the iSPAN 5639L an ideal platform for SS7 monitoring services applications.  With its FPGA-based TDM switching and its enhanced raw data transfers to/from the host, the iSPAN 5639L also provides a fully integrated media termination and switching solution component for media servers.

Please contact Interphase for pricing of the iSPAN 5639L, iWARE software and availability of other products.
